remember that time star trek made its own domestic!kirk/spock great depression au?

You know what’s interesting about this episode?

There’s only one bed in their flat.

Yup, I noticed that 40 years ago when I was just a kid and wondered if they both had trouble fitting in that small bed.

I am older now and know they both fit in it just FINE.

oh happy day

my favorite part of this episode (besides, you know, everything) is when they had to change out of their starfleet uniforms

they’re in this big basement, but they decide to stand right next to each other to change

implications are that they’re pretty darn comfortable with each other

They’re married. They smutted a million times in ths episode.

quick question bc i haven’t seen a lot of voyager: why doesn’t anybody in fandom like neelix? like y’all are always mean to him, and i’m genuinely curious about why that is bc usually st fans have like, very well thought-out reasons for that (also I couldn’t figure out why by looking him up in memory alpha).

You’re probably thinking of my post where I claim I don’t want to see him in a tank top and booty shorts. I think that’s a general fandom sentiment and doesn’t mean I’m “mean” to this fictional character. So I don’t know if I’m the right person to answer this question, but I’ll try.

There’s a recurring storyline in the first few seasons where Neelix is acting jealous and possessive towards his much younger girlfriend. Any dislike from my part comes from the “Why do you talk to other men?” thing that goes on which gives me the creeps. Many others probably feel the same.

I personally don’t hate the character. When this storyline is abandoned and Neelix is a happy, goofy character I like him. If I’m going to take a guess, some people have an aversion to the character because they think he’s the Jar Jar Binks of Star Trek.

It’s fun to make fun of the rat man

In which we prove that B’Elanna Torres is truly the smartest person on Voyager.

Exhibit A

Harry is getting ready for a date in Fair Haven while Tom offers his friend terrible advice.  The rest of the mess hall is ignoring their shenanigans.

image

She approaches, and reminds them that they are idiots.

B’Elanna: When your quaint little seaside town starts to depolarize, don’t come running to me.

Exhibit B

When they realize the characters have attained some level of sentience. B’Elanna shows admirable self-control and never even says “I told you so.”

image

Exhibit C

Tom and Harry are being held hostage in the holodeck.  The safeties are off (when are they on?).  The remaining senior staff are discussing their options here.

B’Elanna: Well then let’s just pull the plug, cut power to the hologrid.

Neelix: That would purge the program from our database!

B’Elanna: Exactly!

Later Janeway insists she won’t let the program be destroyed if she can help it.  B’Elanna throws some shade at Michael Sullivan, the captain’s holodildo, and the captain does not react favorably.

B’Elanna: With all due respect Captain, Michael can be reprogrammed, Tom and Harry can’t.

image

Exhibit D

When Janeway suggests one more round at Sullivan’s holographic bar (her treat) before they shut down the program for good.

B’Elanna channels our hate of the Fair Haven episodes so accurately

There’s this moment in “Timeless” when Geordi LaForge is facing off Chakotay right before the attempt to change history. At one point, Geordi admits he would probably do the same if in the position but he has his own crew and history to protect. Chakotay says something along the lines of “You know I have to do this” and in return Geordie replies “You know I have to try to stop you.” Then they so genuinely wish one another good luck.

I love this. I love it because even though they are odds and are, in a sense, one another’s enemy, they don’t see it that way. They see the person and his duty he must fulfill. We lose that so often. We forget to see the human in the enemy and in that lose our own humanity.
