I really liked the friendship between Archer and Trip but it seems like they never really resolved their conflict after what happened with the Cogenitor. It got worse when they were fighting the Xindi and it culminates with Trip requesting a transfer without even telling Archer what’s bothering him in s4. It’s so depressing how at the end of the Aenar episode, Archer just sits there in his room with 2 empty glasses.
like i know there are a lot of fics out there where other vulcans are all “oh man, jim kirk’s so freakin HOT how’d spock get in his pants” but IF ANYTHING it’s actually the reverse. spock shows up on vulcan one day with Jim on his arm and all the other vulcans are OUTRAGED. They’ve spent years mooning (logically) over spock’s flaxen bowl cut. his dark eyes. his slightly lax emotional control that gives him just a hint of the “bad boy” vibe that we all know vulcans secretly go wild for. Sarek receives like a thousand bonding proposals a year from VSA graduates who all have google alerts set to notify them when spock gets a new xeniobiology article published. and then they find out. that the object of their (totally logical) affections. had the equivalent of a las vegas wedding with the human captain of his starfleet ship while in the middle of a five year mission. vulcans may be too logical to riot but on that day, a good many vulcans had to meditate for an extra hour or two just to contain their rage
This is the sci fi equivalent to that post about Gimli son of Gloin, the Stud of Erebor
Something I don’t see mentioned a lot is how TOS Kirk, at the age of 16-17, was well on his way to being AOS Kirk.
Because at the heart of it, AOS Kirk was not a bad guy – he was angry and impulsive and more then little arrogant, but also intelligent and witty and more then a little lost.
Which is exactly what TOS Kirk was post Tarsus. In fact, TOS Canon says that the only thing setting him back on course was Winona dragging George back by his uniform collar and telling him to help his traumatized son heal goddamnit.
Now what happens is George takes Jim into space with him and the mission apparently goes wrong and that inspired Jim to join StarFleet and that’s lovely and all, but that isn’t an option for AOS Jim now is it?
So basically, everyone who looks at AOS Kirk and says, Jim Kirk would never, I’m sorry to say Jim Kirk did.
(Because he didn’t have George to drag him into space, kicking and screaming. I don’t doubt Winona tried, but the truth sometimes that isn’t good enough. Because it wasn’t his Father who inspired him to join StarFleet as much as watching officers in crisis mode (yes including his Father).
Losing George Kirk effected the timeline, sure we know that. But I think how it affected it is sometimes unexplored.)
